The twin ten-meter Keck Telescopes, with their ground-breaking segmented-mirror technology, revolutionized optical and infrared astronomy, and have become the most scientifically productive telescopes in the world. Yale Science & Engineering Association awardee, Dr. Gary Chanan ’70, will discuss the development of the Keck telescopes, his collaboration with Jerry Nelson, the father of the Kecks, and a projected vision of future segmented telescopes. Dr. Aaron Barth ’90 will moderate this conversation.
